Michael Bywater is an author, broadcaster and journalist. His polymathic and enquiring mind once famously inspired the eponymous detective in Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently series.
He has been a columnist for the Independent on Sunday and Punch, and has written for numerous other newspapers, including the Observer, Telegraph, Times, New Humanist and New Statesman. He has written three books: Chronicles of Bargepole, Lost Worlds and Big Babies.
He has also worked on computer games, written and given talks on perfume (for which he won the 2010 Jasmine award) and supervised the tragedy paper at Magdalene College, Cambridge. He is an excellent harpsichordist and a qualified pilot.
